Gwen Stefani will be taking over for Adam Levine next season on The Voice, and a new report claims that she will be making a lot less money. Levine turned down a two-year deal worth $30 million, but Stefani’s deal is worth $12 million for one season. Why is there such a big difference?
Stefani’s boyfriend Blake Shelton got the same deal NBC offered Levine, so he will be making $15 million this season. However, if you’re thinking the pay gap has something to do with gender, that’s not the case. Straight Shuter: Naughty but Nice podcast host Rob Shuter says that his insider told him it was all about seniority.

Since Shelton and Levine had been on the show since the first season, they were offered bigger deals. But with Levine turning his down and leaving the show, Shelton is now the last original cast member. Stefani didn’t join the cast until Season 7 and has only appeared on three seasons, and this is why her paycheck is smaller.
Stefani’s deal is only for Season 17, and she will be joining Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend.
Levine’s exit from the show was apparently a long time coming. Songland’s Ryan Tedder – frontman of the group OneRepublic – recently revealed on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, that NBC came to him four years ago with an offer to replace Levine.
“I initially got pitched four years ago on potentially replacing Adam on The Voice because he was just tired. He was like, ‘I think I’m going to step off for a minute.’ They called to see if I would do it,” explained Tedder.
However, before he could make a decision, the network called Tedder back and told him it was a “false alarm” because the Maroon 5 frontman had decided to stay with The Voice. At the same time, the network offered Tedder Songland, which they thought would be a better fit.
Tedder was a part of The Voice back in Season 5 as the show’s in-house producer and songwriter, as well as one of the mentors. The 39-year-old has a long list of credits, working with A-list artists like Adele, Beyonce, Paul McCartney, and Carrie Underwood.

When Levine decided it was time for him to finally move on from the show, he wrote in an Instagram post that the support from fans meant everything to him. An insider told People Magazine that there is no bad blood between NBC and Adam Levine, and the singer is excited that Gwen Stefani will be his replacement.
