Sarah-Jane Abigail Lancashire is an English actress from Oldham, England. She graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1986 and began her career in local theater, also teaching drama classes at the University of Salford. Lancashire has enjoyed popular success in TV shows such as Coronation Street, Where the Heart Is, Clocking Off and See Red and is widely recognized. In July 2000, Lancashire signed a two-year, gold-cuffed contract with the ITV network, making her the highest-paid television actress in the UK. Subsequent TV roles include historic dramas Oliver Twist, Lark Rise to Candleford and The Paradise, and reality-based TV series Cheised and Five Dau Girls. Since 2012 Lancashire has received critical acclaim for its roles in the contemporary dramas Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley.
